There are so many opportunities for individuals, groups, other organizations, and students to get involved with S.A.F.E. Place, and help support domestic violence and human trafficking survivors and their families.

Here are some great ways you can volunteer with S.A.F.E. Place. The time you commit to can be long-term or a one-time commitment. It is entirely up to you.

Outreach Volunteers: Volunteers assist with fundraising and outreach events, event set up, attendee check in, and more. Key fundraising events take place in May and September.

Crisis Line Volunteers: Volunteers assist with answering the 24/7 Crisis Line to assist callers with safety planning, resourcing, and accessing our services with an extremely sensitive and survivor centered approach.

Volunteer Advocate: Volunteers receive 40-hr Victim Service Provider training to prepare to assist callers and clients in accessing S.A.F.E Place services at the Marshall office.

Playroom Volunteers: Volunteers open the playroom to allow the children to free play, volunteers can also work with staff to plan special activities, throw parties to celebrate holidays, and even offer homework help.

Donation Volunteers: Volunteers assist with transporting donations to shelter and organizing our supply rooms and closets.

Maintenance Volunteers: Volunteers assist with maintaining safety and integrity of our shelter and office space. This could include fixing lights, doorknobs, shelves, and light plumbing or electrical work.

Master’s Social Work Intern: MSW Interns will provide an agreed upon level of individual and/or group counseling to survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and their children. Utilize and support a short-term, restorative counseling perspective based upon empowerment. Consult and discuss client issues with direct service staff. 1 or 2 semesters.

Shelter Advocate Intern: Shelter Advocate Interns ensure the safety and cleanliness of the shelter, answer the crisis line, provide intake assessment to determine eligibility for services, and complete client intake and exit procedures. The advocates also ensure client needs are met in a timely, ethical, and appropriate manner with the highest of quality. Usually semester long.

Children’s Program Intern: Children’s Program Interns major responsibilities include program planning, child-care, and crisis intervention for dependent children of clients in the shelter, and their mothers as it relates to parenting issues. The advocate interns also ensure client needs are met in a timely, ethical, and appropriate manner with the highest of quality. Usually semester long.

Service Learning: Service-learning students assist with a variety of S.A.F.E Place programs such as shelter operations, playroom management, maintenance, or special events. Under 80 hours.
